Short answer

Confirmed

Grand Theft Auto VI is Rockstar Games’ next open-world game, set in the fictional state of Leonida. It releases on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Two editions are sold: Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99. It is single-player at launch, with no announced PC version and no announced online mode.

Everything below is drawn from material Rockstar has published itself, chiefly the pre-order announcement and the Only in Leonida pages. Where something is reported rather than confirmed, it is labelled. Where nothing is known, that is said plainly rather than filled with an estimate.

The state of Leonida

Leonida is a fictional US state modelled on Florida, nicknamed "the Goodtime State" in Rockstar’s own copy. Rockstar has named six regions, and only six. Every additional region name circulating online is either read off trailer road signage or derived from the September 2022 stolen build, and neither is a source we treat as fact.

Vice City is the metropolis and the anchor of the whole map. Rockstar calls it the "sun and fun capital of America". It returns from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, rebuilt at modern scale, and it is where the majority of published screenshots are set. Its districts get their own section below.

Leonida Keys is a tropical archipelago running south from the mainland — the Florida Keys analogue, a chain of islands connected by causeway. Jason Duval’s backstory places him here, working for drug runners before the events of the game. Expect boats and water to matter more here than roads.

Grassrivers is the Everglades: mangrove, sawgrass, slow water and alligators. Rockstar’s own material foregrounds the wildlife. Airboats appear in official footage and this is the obvious terrain for them.

Port Gellhorn is a faded vacation town of motels, strip malls and dirt bikes. It reads as the panhandle-tourism-in-decline register — the place that was somebody’s holiday in 1987 and has been peeling ever since. Of the six regions it is the one with no direct precedent in a previous Grand Theft Auto game.

Ambrosia is industrial and agricultural. Rockstar names the Allied Crystal sugar refinery there and places a biker gang in the area. Sugar country in Florida is a real and specific thing — vast cane fields, burn season, company towns — and it gives the map an economic register that Los Santos never had.

Mount Kalaga National Park marks the northern border of the state. Rockstar uses both that full name, in image alt text, and the short form "Mount Kalaga" in its navigation and body copy, where it calls the place "a national landmark up against the state’s northern border". Rockstar describes it as offering "prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails". It is the wilderness cap on the map and, for anyone tracking completion, likely to be dense with activity-based objectives rather than urban ones.

Those six are the complete confirmed geography. Rockstar has published no map image of Leonida at any point — not a render, not a minimap, not a pause-screen capture. Every GTA 6 map you can find online is a community reconstruction assembled from trailer frames and 2022 leak data. The MapDex interactive map reflects that: it plots what has a confirmed location and labels the rest by confidence, rather than drawing a coastline and hoping.

Vice City

Vice City is where the published detail is thickest, because it is where Rockstar has chosen to shoot most of its screenshots. Several named locations are specific enough to place on a map.

Ocean Beach is the art deco strip: pastel hotels, white sand, the postcard image the game is being sold on. Washington Beach sits nearby and is where the Shitzu Squalo boat is docked. The Ocean View Hotel is named in the alt text of a Vintage Vice City Pack image. The Vercetti Estate returns, a direct callback to the 1986-set original.

Little Cuba is the Cuban-American district, with panaderías named in Rockstar’s copy. Note the name carefully. Several fan sites publish this district as "Little Havana" and present it as confirmed. Rockstar’s own text says Little Cuba. If a source has that wrong, treat its other place names with caution.

VC Port is described by Rockstar as the "cruise ship capital of the world". The Tisha-Wocka flea market deals in bootleg goods. The Stockyard district contains two named businesses: Stock 305 for clothing and Electric Fang Tattoo, which offers more than fifty tattoo designs by the artist collective FAILE. Southside Vice City holds the PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store, a gang-controlled location shown as a raid target.

Shore Drive is named only obliquely — Rockstar describes the ’95 Grotti Cheetah as "an ode to" it — but it is a Vice City thoroughfare and worth listing. Outside the city proper, Watson Bay holds the Paradise Garage, Lake Leonida has One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop, Gambit Bay is confirmed as a fishing spot, and Leonida Penitentiary features in Lucia’s backstory. Liberty City is referenced as the origin of Lucia’s mother; nothing suggests it is playable.

Jason and Lucia

Grand Theft Auto VI has two protagonists.

Jason Duval is ex-Army. He worked for drug runners in the Leonida Keys before the game opens, and Rockstar shows the Vapid Ganado, Dinka Enduro and Crest kayak stationed outside his safehouse. Rockstar’s story copy adds that the property is Brian Heder’s — Jason is living there rent-free.

Lucia Caminos has just left Leonida Penitentiary. She and her mother lived in Liberty City before that. She is also the first female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto, which is the single most-discussed fact about the game outside its release date — though that is an observation about the series rather than something Rockstar says anywhere in its own copy.

Character switching between the two, in the Grand Theft Auto V sense of swapping at will in the open world, is Reported and has not been stated by Rockstar.

The supporting cast is unusually well documented for a game this far from release, because Rockstar has published individual character profiles. Confirmed: Cal Hampton, a conspiracist and friend of Jason’s; Boobie Ike, who works in real estate and owns a strip club and a recording studio; Dre’Quan Priest of Only Raw Records; Real Dimez, a rap duo made up of Bae-Luxe and Roxy; Raul Bautista, a bank robber; and Brian Heder, a drug runner with a boat yard. Also named are Lori, Brian’s third wife, a rapper called DWNPLY, the PTT Youngin$ gang, and Wyman, an eccentric collector who commissions the Classic Car Collection.

What you can actually do in Leonida

A useful amount of the moment-to-moment systems layer has been confirmed.

Personal Garages exist, and Rockstar names exactly two: the Shore Court personal garage near Ocean Beach and the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay. Both feature a weapon locker for changing loadout and, in Rockstar’s words, "a secure place to deposit stolen goods to be fenced". How many other garages exist, and whether the fenced price differs from the street value, is not something Rockstar has published.

Two vehicle mod shops are named: Rideout Customs, which Rockstar gives no location, and One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop in Lake Leonida. Rockstar’s copy promises Rideout will deliver "detailed interiors, exquisite rims, donk stylings"; One-Eyed Willie’s specialises in off-road modification and hand-painted work. Paradise Garage is storage, not customisation. The named vehicles are covered on the vehicles page, and weapon customisation — grips, engravings, scopes — on the weapons page.

Character customisation runs through three named businesses: Sara’s Unisex Salon for hair, facial hair, makeup and nails; Stock 305 for clothing; and Electric Fang Tattoo for ink. Read the next paragraph before treating any of those as base-game content.

Four of the named businesses are Ultimate Edition content. Rockstar tags Sara’s Unisex Salon, Stock 305, Electric Fang Tattoo and One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop with the line "Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition". The PTT Youngin$ raid and the Classic Car Collection carry the same gating on Rockstar’s edition comparison. That is Rockstar’s own statement, not our reading of it, and it matters for anyone budgeting a completion run — see the editions guide.

The confirmed activity list is broad. Hunting and fishing at Mount Kalaga, with casting confirmed at Gambit Bay. Scuba diving, kayaking, jet skiing and boating. Mini golf. Dirt bikes, ATVs and airboats. Clubs and recording studios. Gang raids, with the PTT Youngin$ store in Southside Vice City shown as an example. Wildlife depicted in official material includes alligators, iguana, cougar, deer, dolphins, sea turtle, eel, coral reef fish, flamingo and a wildcat.

For completion tracking, one thing matters more than the rest. The Classic Car Collection — abandoned project cars scattered across the open world, commissioned by Wyman — is the only confirmed collect-them-all activity in the game, and Rockstar flags it as Ultimate Edition content rather than base-game content. No count, no locations, no reward has been published. When those are verified after launch they will appear on the collectibles tracker, alongside whatever else turns out to feed the completion percentage. How Rockstar’s 100% model has historically worked is covered in the completion guide.

Buying it

Two editions exist and no others. Standard is $79.99, €79.99, C$109.99, A$129.95 and £69.99. Ultimate is $99.99, €99.99, C$139.99, A$159.95 and £89.99. Every figure there is listed on the PlayStation or Xbox storefront for that region, sterling included. The full breakdown sits in the editions guide and country-by-country figures in the price guide.

If you own the Standard Edition and change your mind, there is an upgrade. A Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition Upgrade product exists on the PlayStation Store, and Rockstar’s own support documentation describes buying it from the PlayStation or Microsoft store once the Standard Edition has been redeemed. No price is displayed on it yet.

Pre-orders opened 25 June 2026 and pre-load opens 12 November 2026 — timing detail is in the pre-order guide.

Two things are routinely got wrong. First, the Vintage Vice City Pack comes with any purchase made before 20 November 2026, not only with pre-orders. Second, the physical edition contains no disc — it is a download code in a box, which is why Video Games Plus and Loot Box Gaming have declined to stock it. Both are explained at length in the no-disc guide.

The game is not on Xbox Game Pass or the PlayStation Plus catalogue, and no subscription availability has been announced for it in either direction. Take-Two’s general position on frontline releases points the same way, but there is no Grand Theft Auto VI-specific statement — see platforms and Game Pass. The countdown tracks the release moment, and exact unlock timing is in the release date guide.

What is not known

This section is longer than most sites’ because most sites skip it.

Map size. No official figure of any kind. Community mapping puts Leonida at roughly 2.1 to 2.7 times Grand Theft Auto V depending on method Reported. The "officially confirmed 2.5×" line that circulates widely is not officially confirmed by anyone: the multiplier comes from community cartography on GTAForums in 2024, which measured the fan mapping project at around 125 km². What gave the claim its "officially" was a set of Brazilian retailer listings in June 2026 — and those listings contain no number at all, only the phrase "the most massive, dense, and insane map ever created by Rockstar Games". Be sceptical of square-mile comparisons in particular: Grand Theft Auto V is commonly measured at 48.15 km² of land plus 27.69 km² of water for 75.84 km² total, but that is a community measurement too Reported, competing methods disagree, and several outlets have converted the figures incorrectly on top of that, producing comparisons wrong by a factor rather than a margin.

A map image. Rockstar has published none. Not one. This is the most important honesty point on this page.

Download size. No official figure. Every number circulating is an estimate — see pre-load and download size.

PC version. Never announced. No date, no specs, no store listing. Precedent only, and precedent is not a promise: PC release status.

Online. No GTA VI Online announced, at launch or ever: online multiplayer status.

Frame rate and performance modes. No official statement, and no 60fps confirmation, despite the PS5 Pro Enhanced label.

Cheat codes. None known. Rockstar has never officially published a cheat list for any Grand Theft Auto game — see cheats.

Collectibles. Zero known beyond the Classic Car Collection’s existence. No category names, no counts, no locations.

Vehicle and weapon lists. Ten vehicles and seven weapons appear in Rockstar's own published material — some with model names, some shown and described without one. That is what we publish, and each row cites the material it came from. The much longer databases elsewhere carry model names the community has identified from official trailers and screenshots — a legitimate standard, just not one we can cite — alongside a smaller set attributed to the September 2022 stolen build, which we will not republish at all. The vehicles hub sets out the distinction.

A final age rating. Neither board has issued one. Both have published something provisional: PEGI shows Provisional 18 on the UK PlayStation listing, and the ESRB shows "Rating Pending — Likely Mature 17+" on the Xbox listing. Take-Two’s own press release says plainly that the game "is not yet rated".

Trailer 3 has not been announced. The next scheduled moment new information could surface is Take-Two’s Q1 FY2027 earnings call on 7 August 2026.

How MapDex handles a game that does not exist yet

Every marker, list and count on this site carries a confidence label: confirmed, community, or speculative. Confirmed means Rockstar published it. Community means players verified it in the released game. Speculative means it is a reasonable inference and is marked as such.

That is why our lists are shorter than the ones you will find elsewhere. We do not republish material derived from the 2022 breach, we do not promote trailer-frame readings to facts, and we do not fill a database with plausible entries to look complete before launch.

The engine is built and tested now. From 19 November the map, the collectibles tracker and the entity databases fill with verified data, hourly. Until then, this page tells you what is actually known, and the guides go deeper on the parts you have to make a decision about before release day.

Common questions

When does GTA 6 come out?
19 November 2026. Rockstar Games has confirmed the date twice since announcing it on 6 November 2025 — once on a May 2026 earnings call and again in a shareholder letter inside a preliminary proxy statement filed with the SEC on 17 July 2026. The game has already slipped twice, from an original 2025 window to 26 May 2026 to the current date.
How much does GTA 6 cost?
There are two editions. Standard is $79.99 and Ultimate is $99.99 in the United States. European pricing is €79.99 and €99.99, Canadian is C$109.99 and C$139.99, Australian is A$129.95 and A$159.95, and UK pricing is £69.99 and £89.99. Every one of those figures is listed on the PlayStation or Xbox storefront for that region.
What platforms is GTA 6 on?
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. It does not run on PS4 or Xbox One, and there is no backwards-compatible version. The PlayStation Store listing carries a PS5 Pro Enhanced label, and the game supports Tempest 3D Audio, SSD fast loading, and DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Rockstar has never announced a PC version. There is no date, no system requirements and no store listing anywhere. Precedent is the only guide: Grand Theft Auto V reached PC roughly 19 months after its console release, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took about 12 months. Neither is a commitment.
Does GTA 6 have online multiplayer?
Not at launch. Grand Theft Auto VI ships as a single-player game and no GTA VI Online has been announced. The free month of GTA+ that comes with a digital pre-order of either edition applies to the existing service attached to Grand Theft Auto Online, not to any Grand Theft Auto VI online mode.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has published no figure and no map image at all. Community estimates from trailer analysis suggest roughly 2.4 to 2.7 times the size of Grand Theft Auto V, but these are reconstructions. The frequently repeated claim that 2.5 times is officially confirmed traces to community mapping on GTAForums. Rockstar has never published a figure.
Who are the GTA 6 protagonists?
Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Jason is ex-Army and previously worked for drug runners in the Leonida Keys. Lucia has just come out of Leonida Penitentiary and is, by the series’ own record rather than by any Rockstar statement, the first female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto game. Playable character switching between them is reported but not officially confirmed.
Will GTA 6 be on Game Pass or PS Plus?
Rockstar has announced no subscription availability, so it is a full-price purchase on both platforms. Take-Two has never made a Grand Theft Auto VI-specific statement about Game Pass or PS Plus. Its stated general policy, going back to 2022, is against putting frontline releases into subscription services on day one.
Can you pre-order GTA 6?
Yes. Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026 and pre-load opens on 12 November 2026. The Vintage Vice City Pack is included with any purchase made before 20 November 2026, so it is not a pre-order exclusive — a point that is widely misreported.
Does the physical GTA 6 edition include a disc?
No. The boxed edition contains a download code only, with no disc inside. Two retailers, Video Games Plus and Loot Box Gaming, have publicly refused to stock it as a result. If you want a physical copy that works without a download, no such version exists.
