Short answer

Confirmed

Pre-orders opened 25 June 2026 across the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store and global retail. The headline bonus, the Vintage Vice City Pack, is not pre-order exclusive — it comes with any purchase made before 20 November 2026.

That last sentence is the reason this page exists. The Vintage Vice City Pack is described almost everywhere as a pre-order bonus, and treating it as one leads people to rush a decision they do not need to rush. Rockstar's own pre-order announcement ties the pack to purchases made before 20 November 2026, which includes launch day itself.

The Ultimate Edition's retail availability is the uncertain column. German coverage of the European listings, published by PC Games Hardware, reports that Ultimate appears only in the PlayStation and Xbox stores while retailers carry Standard. That is Reported and specific to one market. Check your own retailer rather than assuming it generalises.

If you have not decided between the tiers yet, the editions comparison sets out what each one contains and what is only press-sourced.

What you actually get for pre-ordering

Two things are attached to the pre-order window, and they work differently from each other.

The Vintage Vice City Pack

Included with all pre-orders, and with any purchase before 20 November 2026. It applies to Standard and Ultimate alike. Physical pre-orders get it while supplies last, which is the one place the word "pre-order" does real work.

Contents, from Rockstar's own pre-order material and collected by Gfinity Esports:

  • A '55 Vapid Stanier
  • The Shore Court personal garage near Ocean Beach, with a weapon locker and, in Rockstar's phrasing, a secure place to deposit stolen goods to be fenced
  • Vice City-inspired outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia
  • A submachine gun carrying "an iconic weapon pattern that echoes the excess of the past"

That last item is described almost everywhere, and was described on this page, as a Tommy Vercetti-inspired pattern. It is not. Rockstar's Vercetti Estate reference belongs to a different item in a different pack — the Ultimate Edition's Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers. When the game is out, the Shore Court personal garage will be plotted on the interactive map and the Stanier will appear in the vehicle database with confirmed stats.

One free month of GTA+

This one is worth reading carefully, because it is routinely misunderstood in two different directions.

First, what triggers it: it is a digital pre-order bonus, and it applies to both editions. Take-Two's press release attaches the free month to digital pre-orders, and Rockstar's edition comparison marks it as included with Standard and Ultimate alike. A great deal of coverage files it under Ultimate Edition contents. It is not an Ultimate perk, and buying Ultimate at retail in a box will not get it.

Second, what it unlocks. GTA+ is a subscription to the existing Rockstar service. It covers GTA Online — which is the online mode of Grand Theft Auto V — plus a library of classic Rockstar titles. It is not a Grand Theft Auto VI online subscription. No online mode for Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced, and the game is single-player at launch, so there is nothing in GTA VI for a GTA+ membership to unlock.

The PlayStation Store Canada listing shows the month on both Standard and Ultimate, consistent with Rockstar's own edition data, and adds one thing the press release does not: it auto-renews.

Which edition should you pre-order?

The tier decision is more reversible than most coverage suggests, including an earlier version of this page. A Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition Upgrade product is live on the PlayStation Store, and Rockstar's own support documentation describes Standard Edition owners buying the upgrade from the PlayStation or Microsoft store after redeeming Standard. No price is shown on the SKU yet and no deadline has been published, so it is not certain the upgrade costs exactly the difference — but "assume you are choosing once" is not the right advice, and it was the advice here before.

The $20 gap, or its regional equivalent, buys premium vehicles, weapons and apparel. Rockstar's own description is content "threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story", which is broad enough not to promise extra missions. Its edition comparison itemises the rest: six vehicles, a set of pistols and revolvers, more than 50 tattoos, the Goodtime Gear apparel line, and four shops it explicitly marks "only open for business with the Ultimate Edition". A claim that Ultimate includes two exclusive side missions comes from a single outlet and is unverified.

One item in the gap matters more than the cosmetics if you are here for completion tracking: Rockstar flags the Classic Car Collection as Ultimate content, and it is the only confirmed collect-them-all activity in the game. Nothing announced for Ultimate adds a separate additional collectible set, so Standard still covers the base game — but that flag is the one part of the tier decision a completionist should actually weigh. Our collectibles checklists will label the edition each set requires.

Should you pre-order at all?

The honest answer is that the case is weaker than it looks, because the main incentive is not time-limited to the pre-order window.

Reasons to pre-order:

  • Physical copies. The Vintage Vice City Pack is guaranteed to physical pre-orders only while supplies last, so a boxed copy is the one purchase where waiting carries a real risk of missing out.
  • Pre-load on 12 November. Ordering digitally in advance means the download can start a week before release rather than on launch night. Rockstar has published no official download size, so plan for a large one without trusting any specific figure you read.
  • Certainty of price. Rockstar has never discounted a mainline Grand Theft Auto at launch.

Reasons not to:

  • The pack survives until 20 November 2026 on digital purchases, so buying on launch day loses nothing on that count.
  • An Ultimate Edition Upgrade exists on the PlayStation Store, so a tier decision made now is not final — though its price is not published.
  • Discounting has already started at retail before launch, which is unusual.

The one thing genuinely lost by not pre-ordering digitally is the free month of GTA+, which is tied to digital pre-orders rather than to the 20 November purchase window.

Is GTA 6 already being discounted?

Yes, in places, and that is genuinely unusual for a Rockstar launch. Big W in Australia listed the Standard Edition at A$125 against an A$129.95 recommended price, and German retailers cut prices around Prime Day. Both are Reported retailer behaviour rather than a publisher price change — the recommended prices have not moved.

The lesson is narrow: retail undercutting on the physical Standard Edition is possible, digital storefront pricing is not moving, and the savings observed so far are a few per cent. Full currency-by-currency pricing sits in the regional price guide.

Should you wait for Black Friday?

The timing invites the question. Grand Theft Auto VI releases 19 November 2026, one week before US Thanksgiving, which puts Black Friday days after launch.

Two facts bear on it. Rockstar has never discounted a mainline Grand Theft Auto game at launch, so there is no precedent for a launch-week price cut. And waiting past 19 November forfeits the Vintage Vice City Pack, because the deadline is a purchase before 20 November 2026 — the Friday after Thanksgiving is well past it.

Retailer-level discounting on boxed copies, of the kind Big W has already shown, is a different matter and could continue. But a boxed copy is a download code in a box, which brings its own trade-offs — see the no-disc explainer.

What a physical pre-order actually is

Worth stating plainly, because it changes what a boxed pre-order means: the launch physical edition contains no disc. It is a download code in a box, confirmed in Rockstar's press release. Redeeming the code entitles your account to download the game from the platform store, exactly as a digital purchase would.

That explains the 12 November ship date, and Rockstar says so outright rather than leaving it to be inferred: the physical version "will be available starting November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading". The box has to reach you before pre-load so the code can be redeemed and the download started. It also explains why two retailers, the Canadian specialist Video Games Plus and Loot Box Gaming, announced on 24 June 2026 that they would not stock the game at launch, both citing store policies against code-in-box products — though both statements were conditional at the time, made on the expectation that the code-in-box reporting was accurate.

The practical consequences are narrow but real. A redeemed code cannot be resold or lent, and the box preserves nothing. If those matter to you, the no-disc explainer covers them, including how thin the sourcing is on a possible later disc edition.

Can you cancel or refund a pre-order?

Rockstar has published no game-specific refund policy, and we found no source stating one. What applies instead is the standard policy of whichever storefront or retailer took the order, and those differ meaningfully between the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and physical retailers.

Read the terms on the store where you placed the order rather than a general rule. The one point worth making: cancellation is usually easier before release than after download.

The countdown page tracks the release date directly.

How likely is another delay?

Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed twice. Rockstar's original public commitment, from the first trailer on 4 December 2023, was simply "Coming 2025" — the "Fall 2025" often quoted was Take-Two's investor-facing framing rather than a Rockstar-stated date. That slipped to 26 May 2026 in an announcement on 2 May 2025, then to 19 November 2026 on 6 November 2025.

Since then the date has been reaffirmed twice at the highest level. Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick restated it on the Q4 FY2026 earnings call on 21 May 2026, reported by Variety, and again in his shareholder letter inside a preliminary proxy statement Take-Two filed with the SEC on 17 July 2026, which names "the planned November 19th release" directly.

Earnings calls are where release dates change, and the next one is Take-Two's Q1 FY2027 results on 7 August 2026. That is the date to watch, not any given rumour cycle.

What pre-ordering does not get you

  • No subscription access. Nothing has been announced for Game Pass or PS Plus, at launch or later.
  • No online mode. Single-player at launch; no GTA VI Online announced.
  • No final age rating. PEGI shows Provisional 18 and the ESRB shows "Rating Pending — Likely Mature 17+"; Take-Two says the game is not yet rated.
  • No disc, in any pre-order at any retailer, at launch.

Everything else we track, including the collectibles checklists that go live with real data at launch, sits on the Grand Theft Auto VI hub.

Common questions

When did GTA 6 pre-orders open?
Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026 at midnight local time, announced the previous day by Rockstar Games and Take-Two. They are available on the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and through global retailers including Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, Big W and MediaMarkt.
Do I have to pre-order to get the Vintage Vice City Pack?
No. The Vintage Vice City Pack is included with all pre-orders and with any purchase made before 20 November 2026. Buying on launch day still qualifies. The only pre-order-specific condition is for physical copies, which receive the pack while supplies last.
What is in the Vintage Vice City Pack?
A ’55 Vapid Stanier, the Shore Court personal garage near Ocean Beach with a weapon locker and a fencing drop-off, Vice City-inspired outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia, and a submachine gun carrying what Rockstar calls an iconic weapon pattern that echoes the excess of the past. That pattern is not the Vercetti reference it is often described as.
Is the free month of GTA+ a subscription to GTA 6 Online?
No. GTA+ is a subscription to the existing service, which covers GTA Online in Grand Theft Auto V and a library of classic Rockstar titles. No online mode for Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced. Rockstar’s press release describes the free month as being for digital pre-orders, and the PlayStation Store Canada listing notes it auto-renews.
Should I wait for a Black Friday deal on GTA 6?
Rockstar has never discounted a mainline Grand Theft Auto game at launch. The 19 November 2026 release lands one week before US Thanksgiving, so Black Friday falls days after launch, but there is no precedent for a launch-window price cut. Waiting also forfeits the Vintage Vice City Pack, which requires a purchase before 20 November 2026.
Can I pre-order the Ultimate Edition at retail?
Possibly not everywhere. German coverage reports that the Ultimate Edition is listed only in the PlayStation and Xbox stores, with retailers carrying the Standard Edition. That is regional reporting rather than a Rockstar statement, so check your local retailer before assuming a boxed Ultimate exists.
When does GTA 6 pre-load start?
Pre-load opens 12 November 2026, seven days before the 19 November release. Physical boxed copies also ship from 12 November specifically so the enclosed download code can be redeemed in time for pre-load. Rockstar has not published an official download size, so every figure circulating is an estimate.
Could GTA 6 be delayed again?
It has been delayed twice already, from an original 2025 window to 26 May 2026 and then to 19 November 2026. The date was reaffirmed by Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick in May 2026 and again in his shareholder letter in a preliminary proxy statement filed on 17 July 2026. The next scheduled moment a change could surface is Take-Two’s Q1 FY2027 earnings on 7 August 2026.
Can I cancel a GTA 6 pre-order and get a refund?
Rockstar has not published a game-specific refund policy, so the standard policies of whichever storefront or retailer you used apply. Digital pre-order cancellation rules differ between the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store and the Rockstar Games Store. Check the terms on the store where you placed the order rather than relying on a general rule.
