Short answer
ConfirmedGrand Theft Auto VI releases on 19 November 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games has published the date and nothing else — there is no official unlock time. Storefront metadata points to a rolling midnight-local unlock, but that is an inference, not a schedule.
The launch timeline in one glance
Only two dates are settled. Keep those separate from the unlock hour, which remains an inference from platform-store metadata.
Release date — confirmed
19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar and Take-Two have repeatedly reaffirmed it.
Pre-load — confirmed
Downloads open 12 November, giving digital and boxed-code buyers seven days to prepare.
Unlock hour — inferred
Regional storefronts point to midnight local time, but Rockstar has published no official schedule.
The date comes from Rockstar's pre-order announcement, carried on the Take-Two investor newswire on 24 June 2026. Pre-load opens 12 November. The live counter is on the countdown page.
Is the 19 November date actually safe?
It is the most reaffirmed date the game has ever had, and it has survived two corporate checkpoints since it was set.
Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed twice. Rockstar's first public commitment, in the trailer of 4 December 2023, was simply "Coming 2025" — the "Fall 2025" widely quoted was Take-Two's investor framing, never a Rockstar-stated date. It moved to 26 May 2026 on 2 May 2025, then to 19 November 2026 in a Rockstar Newswire post on 6 November 2025. That is the full delay history — two moves, both announced by Rockstar rather than leaked.
Since then:
| Date | Event | What was said |
|---|---|---|
| 6 Nov 2025 | Rockstar Newswire | Date moved to 19 November 2026 |
| 21 May 2026 | Take-Two Q4 FY2026 earnings call | Strauss Zelnick reaffirmed the date and said marketing would ramp over the summer |
| 17 Jul 2026 | Zelnick shareholder letter, in a preliminary proxy statement filed with the SEC | FY2027 described as "a major inflection point" defined by "the planned November 19th release" |
The May reaffirmation was reported by Variety; the July shareholder letter was covered by Screen Rant. A date restated inside an SEC filing is a materially different signal from a date restated in an interview. It is not a guarantee, but it raises the cost of moving it.
Delay chatter resurfaced in July 2026 and was dismissed by developers speaking publicly. That is Reported — informal statements rather than a Rockstar position — and there is no credible reporting of a further slip.

What time does GTA 6 unlock?
Rockstar has not said. This is the part almost every page on the subject gets wrong.
There is no Rockstar-issued global unlock schedule. There is no Newswire post giving a time. Anything presenting one — with a graphic, a countdown per region, and a confident "official" label — has invented the framing. The honest answer is that the date is confirmed and the time is not.
What does exist is release-time metadata on the platform storefronts. Three regional listings have been documented by Vice City Tracker:
| Storefront region | Listed release time | Local equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 05:00 UTC, 19 Nov 2026 | Midnight ET |
| United Kingdom | 00:00 UTC, 19 Nov 2026 | Midnight GMT |
| Germany | 23:00 UTC, 18 Nov 2026 | Midnight CET, 19 Nov |
Three regions, three different UTC timestamps, all resolving to local midnight on 19 November. That is the signature of a rolling midnight-local unlock. It is also, and this matters, exactly what a storefront produces by default when a publisher supplies a release date and no time at all. The pattern is consistent with a deliberate staggered launch and equally consistent with nothing having been decided.
One supporting data point: when pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026, Rockstar described the opening as midnight local time. That is confirmed for pre-orders and tells you the publisher is comfortable with the model. It is not a statement about launch.
Unlock times by timezone
The table below is derived from storefront metadata, not from Rockstar. It assumes the midnight-local pattern holds in every region. Use it to plan, not to make promises to anyone.
Note the dates: for every zone east of UTC, local midnight on 19 November falls on 18 November in UTC terms. Germany's listing showing 18 November is not an early release — it is 19 November locally.
| Zone | Region | UTC offset | Expected unlock (local) | Same moment in UTC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NZDT | Auckland | +13 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 11:00, 18 Nov |
| AEDT | Sydney, Melbourne | +11 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 13:00, 18 Nov |
| JST | Tokyo, Seoul (KST) | +9 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 15:00, 18 Nov |
| IST | India | +5:30 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 18:30, 18 Nov |
| CET | Berlin, Paris, Madrid | +1 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 23:00, 18 Nov |
| GMT | London, Dublin, Lisbon | 0 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 00:00, 19 Nov |
| ET | New York, Toronto | −5 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 05:00, 19 Nov |
| CT | Chicago, Mexico City | −6 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 06:00, 19 Nov |
| MT | Denver | −7 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 07:00, 19 Nov |
| PT | Los Angeles, Vancouver | −8 | 00:00, 19 Nov | 08:00, 19 Nov |
Read across the last column and you get the running order. New Zealand goes first. Eastern Australia follows two hours later. Japan and Korea are mid-afternoon UTC on the 18th. Europe crosses over at its own midnight. North America is last, with Los Angeles unlocking 21 hours after Auckland.
Three practical consequences:
- If you are in the US, the game will be out somewhere for most of a day before it is out for you. Streams and footage will be live long before your unlock. Plan spoiler avoidance for 18 November, not 19 November.
- If you are in Europe, the unlock is the middle of the night. Pre-loading on 12 November is what makes a midnight start realistic — see the pre-load and download size guide.
- Do not build a plan on the exact minute. The listings are set by Sony and Microsoft, not Rockstar, and either platform can revise a release-time field without any announcement. Large launches have also slipped by minutes to hours at the CDN level.

Why the timezone tables you see elsewhere disagree
Because they are all guessing from the same three data points and rounding differently. Some assume a single simultaneous global unlock pegged to midnight ET, which would put New Zealand at 18:00 on 19 November — after most of a day of waiting past their own midnight. Others assume midnight UTC everywhere. The storefront evidence supports neither; it supports local midnight, region by region.
We will replace this table with observed unlock times on the day itself. Until then it stays labelled for what it is.
Does buying physical change when you can play?
No, and it may make things worse. The boxed launch release contains a download code rather than a disc, so a physical copy still requires the full download. Boxed copies ship from 12 November specifically so that the code can be redeemed in time for pre-load. The consequences of that decision — resale, lending, and what happens if your box arrives late — are covered in the no-disc guide.
If your copy arrives on 19 November rather than before it, you are downloading from scratch on the busiest day the platform stores will have all year.
What about a PC version, or Game Pass?
Neither applies on 19 November. No PC release has been dated — the current status is set out in the PC release status guide — and no subscription release has been announced for Game Pass or PS Plus, covered in platforms and Game Pass.
Will there be a third trailer before launch?
No trailer has been announced and no date exists. Zelnick confirmed in May 2026 that marketing would ramp over the summer and that a further trailer was part of the plan. Every specific date circulating is unverified. We are not going to publish one.

What to do with the time before launch
The date is fixed, the download is a week earlier than the date, and the unlock hour is not knowable yet. Three things are worth doing now:
- Pre-load on 12 November. It is the only variable in this whole timeline you fully control.
- Decide your edition before pre-orders get busy. The two-tier structure is set out in editions explained.
- Bookmark the map. The interactive map and the collectible checklists are built now and populated the moment real data exists — this is a console-only launch, so a second screen is the only way to track completion while you play.
Everything else we track for the game sits on the Grand Theft Auto VI hub. The live counter is on the countdown page, and this page will be updated on 7 August after Take-Two's earnings report, and again on launch day with observed unlock times.
