Short answer
ConfirmedGrand Theft Auto VI launches 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. It is not playable on PlayStation 4, and no Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2 or PC version has been announced. It is not on Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus, and no subscription release has been announced for either service, on any date.
That is the short version, and it covers most of what people actually need. The rest of this page is the detail underneath it, including a section on what is not known — which for this release includes frame rate, performance modes, bundles and the final age rating.
What platforms is GTA 6 on?
| Platform | Status |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Confirmed, 19 November 2026 |
| PlayStation 5 Pro | Confirmed, listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced |
| Xbox Series X | Confirmed, 19 November 2026 |
| Xbox Series S | Confirmed, 19 November 2026 |
| PlayStation 4 | Explicitly not playable |
| Xbox One | No version announced |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | No version announced |
| PC | No version announced |
Two of those rows are stronger claims than the others, and the difference matters.
PlayStation 4 is an explicit exclusion. The PlayStation product page states that the game is not playable on PS4. Sony does not print that line unless it is true. There is no cross-gen version waiting to be revealed.
Xbox One, Switch 2 and PC are absences, not exclusions. Nobody has announced them and nobody has formally ruled them out. For Xbox One and Switch 2 the practical answer is the same as an exclusion — a game built for Series X|S is not going to appear on 2013 hardware. PC is a genuinely open question and has its own page, because the historical precedent there is real and worth showing.
Why is GTA 6 not on Game Pass?
Because nobody has put it there, and nothing suggests anybody will. That is a weaker sentence than the one you will read everywhere else, and it is the accurate one.
Here is the actual state of the sourcing, because this is the claim on which most GTA 6 coverage quietly overreaches.
Rockstar has announced no subscription availability, for launch or for any later date. The game is listed on both storefronts as a full-price purchase and nowhere as a catalogue title. That much is directly checkable.
Take-Two has never made a statement about this game and subscriptions. The quote that every "Zelnick confirms no Game Pass" headline traces back to is a general policy remark from a GamesIndustry.biz interview in June 2022 — four years before this release date existed — about frontline properties in the abstract: the company "can't afford to turn our business upside down in a way that doesn't make sense economically… it doesn't make sense to do that for frontline properties in our opinion". Coverage of that interview is here. It is a consistent policy position and it points hard in one direction. It is not a statement about Grand Theft Auto VI, and presenting it as one is how a reasonable inference gets laundered into a fact.
The commercial logic points the same way and is not mysterious. The game is priced at $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate. Subscription services pay a publisher a negotiated fee for inclusion, and no fee any service could plausibly pay would exceed what this particular release makes at full price on day one. Putting it on Game Pass at launch would be swapping the largest single revenue event in the industry for a flat cheque.
Practically: to play on 19 November you buy it. Our editions comparison covers what the Ultimate tier adds, and the price by country guide covers regional pricing, which varies more than usual on this release.
What is confirmed about PS5 performance?
The PlayStation Store listing is the most detailed official source of platform information that exists, and it is thinner than most people assume.
Confirmed on the listing:
- PS5 Pro Enhanced. This is the strongest hardware claim anyone has made about the game. It means there is some improvement on PS5 Pro. It does not say what.
- Tempest 3D Audio support.
- SSD fast loading.
- DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
That is the complete list, and the listing carries nothing else. Note what is not in it. Controller speaker support turns up on a number of GTA 6 spec round-ups, this page's previous version among them. It is not on the PlayStation listing.

Does GTA 6 run at 60fps?
Unknown. There is no official statement of any kind.
Rockstar has not published a frame rate, has not published a performance mode list, and has not published resolution targets — not for PS5, not for PS5 Pro, not for Xbox Series X or S. This is a confirmed absence rather than something we have failed to find.
Claims that a 60fps performance mode has been "leaked" or "confirmed" are unverified. Every one traces back to an unnamed source rather than to Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft. If a performance mode exists, it will appear either in a pre-launch technical blog post or on the storefront listing, and it will be unambiguous when it does.
The genuinely useful thing to know: performance modes are frequently added post-launch on this generation. A game shipping at 30fps in November is not a game locked at 30fps forever.
What the DualSense support tells you
The listing confirms haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. These are worth noting for a reason that has nothing to do with graphics: they are the features most likely to be the difference between the PS5 and Xbox versions feeling identical or not.
Adaptive triggers change how weapons and vehicles feel under the finger rather than how they look. On previous open-world titles they have carried firearm resistance, throttle weight and surface feedback. Rockstar has confirmed only that the support exists, not what it is used for, so anything more specific than that is guesswork.
Tempest 3D Audio is the same category of claim — confirmed as supported, undescribed in use. In a game where the world is the main character, positional audio matters more than it does in most genres, but a feature tag is a feature tag and we are not going to build a paragraph of atmosphere on top of one.
Is there a Series S version, and is it cut down?
There is a Series S version — the game is listed for Xbox Series X|S, which covers both consoles. Nothing has been said about how the two differ. On this generation the pattern has generally been lower resolution and sometimes lower frame rate on Series S, but Rockstar has published nothing, so applying the pattern to this specific game would be a guess and we are not making it.
Are there GTA 6 console bundles?
None announced. Not by Sony, not by Microsoft, not by Rockstar.
Reports of a PS5 Pro bundle are unverified. This is a reasonable thing to speculate about — a launch of this size is exactly when a platform holder would want a hardware bundle in shops — but reasonable speculation is still speculation. Bundles get announced by the platform holder, usually four to eight weeks ahead of the hardware hitting shelves, through official channels. Watch Sony and Microsoft directly rather than aggregators.
If you are planning to buy a console specifically for this game, the pre-load logistics are worth reading first: pre-load opens 12 November, and the boxed edition has no disc, only a download code.
Which console should I buy it on?
There is not enough published information to answer this on technical grounds, and any page telling you otherwise is inventing the basis for its recommendation. No frame rate figures, no resolution targets and no performance mode list exist for either platform, so a side-by-side comparison has nothing to compare.
What can be said honestly:
- PS5 Pro carries a stated enhancement. The PS5 Pro Enhanced tag is on the listing. Its scale is unspecified, but it is the only official acknowledgement that any hardware runs the game better than any other hardware.
- The DualSense features are PlayStation-only by definition. If haptics and adaptive triggers matter to you, that is a real and confirmed difference rather than a speculative one.
- Series S is the lowest-specified target. Nothing has been said about how it differs, but it is the weakest hardware on the list and the pattern across this generation has generally been reduced resolution.
- Everything else is where your friends and your library are, which is a better basis for the decision than a specification that has not been published.
If you already own one of these consoles, own it and buy the game there. If you are buying hardware specifically for this release, the storefront listings will gain performance detail before launch, and waiting until October costs you nothing.
What is the age rating?
No final rating has been issued by either board. Both have published something provisional, and those provisional entries are worth reporting rather than rounding down to "nothing yet".
| Board | Provisional entry, as of 30 July 2026 | Where |
|---|---|---|
| PEGI | Provisional 18 | UK PlayStation Store product data |
| ESRB | "Rating Pending — Likely Mature 17+" | Xbox Store product data |
Take-Two's own pre-order press release states plainly that the game "is not yet rated", which is the stronger citation for the absence of a final rating than either storefront paraphrase.
Every mainline Grand Theft Auto release has carried the highest general-audience-excluded rating in every major territory, and both provisional entries point the same way, so the outcome is not really in doubt. It is still provisional. When the boards finalise, the listings will show it and this page will be updated.
What has not been answered at all
Two questions get asked constantly and have no source behind either answer. We are listing them rather than filling the gap with a guess.
- Cross-progression between PS5 and Xbox. No statement. With no online component announced at launch (see the online and multiplayer page) there is not even an obvious mechanism for it.
- Cloud streaming availability. No statement, on either PlayStation's or Xbox's cloud offering.
The next moment anything changes
Take-Two's Q1 FY2027 earnings call is scheduled for 7 August 2026. Earnings calls are where release-adjacent commercial information tends to surface — pricing, subscription positioning, launch expectations — and it is the next scheduled date on which anything official is due. Beyond that, the storefront listings themselves will gain detail as the build locks: file size, performance modes and the age rating all typically appear there before launch.
The countdown page tracks the dates, and the GTA 6 hub collects everything else. The interactive map and collectibles tracker are being built now against the same rule that governs this page: what is confirmed is stated plainly, what is not is labelled, and nothing gets promoted from rumour to fact because it would make a tidier sentence.
